Join Bernadette Gallagher, author of The Risen Tree (Revival Press, 2024) for a relaxed workshop to discover stories within poems from the distant past to the present day. Taking place on Thursday, 18th September 2025, from 11am to 12:30pm at the Briery Gap.
Enheduanna (circa 2300 BC) is believed to be the first named writer for which we have evidence. Her work is recorded on clay tablets from Mesopotamia. Homer appears on our timeline more than 1000 years later. It is thought that we write to try to understand our lives in this wondrous world that we inhabit. When we read poems whether ancient or contemporary we are finding out something about lives that have been lived up to the point of the writing of the poem.
Bernadette Gallagher, author of The Risen Tree (Revival Press, 2024) views poems as ways of conversing between the past, present and to some reader in the future. The aim of this workshop is to facilitate conversation through the reading of poems.
